I love their ribs! And everything...
I would call today to be on the safe side.
They do not
Boom!!
Pork and delicious
By far the BEST ribs in East Texas. The food is excellent. Staff is very friendly; just needs to work on checking on tables for refills. They're bananna pudding is wonderful; however I didn't care for the hard "cookies". Bananna pudding is much better with the vanilla wafers.
Excellent food! The 3 meat combo plate is a homerun and added a small side of brisket for grins! The smoked turkey was amazing (turkey normally isn't at the top of my list but this may have changed my mind!) The brisket was super tender and the ribs were meaty and good. The sausage was delicious!! Friendly staff and service. Some classic country playing and dark lighting makes for fun atmosphere. Be back soon!
Excellent ribs and brisket. Blackberry cobbler and banana pudding were yummy.
The smell as soon as you pull up fills the car and is amazing. Went inside to try the food and was not disappointed. I think that's the best brisket I've had in a long time. BBQ sauce is tasty. Really enjoyed our food. Bathroom was really clean too and had completely hands free things to wash hands. Good experience.
Honestly the best BBQ I have had in my life. The menu is simple and straightforward. The potato salad is amazing. The service is ready and willing. Get there early for a seat!
Very active. Staff friendly. Great food, short wait times.
The food was amazing I'm definitely going there agin
Excellent food, great atmosphere and the service is on point.
Best bar b q that I have eaten long time
Atmosphere was what you expected from a BBQ joint. Had some clients and it's surprisingly a good place to go for conversation. It's not too loud during lunch to have a conversation. The waitress was friendly and quick. The had the combination plate with ribs, sausage, and brisket. The ribs were amazing, tender and nearly falling off the bone. The sausage had jalapeños and was packed with flavor and spicy, just the way I like it. The brisket was a little bit on the dry side but seasoned well.
My first visit and I loved it! I tried the Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage, Brisket and the Ribs. The brisket was so tender and full of flavor, think it was the best I have ever had. The ribs had a slightly sweet flavor, not too heavy on the smoke flavor, and tender...very tasty! I will definitely be going back!
I love this place great food and drink hype as been for all my life
Good place ir, wanting BBQ
This is the best barbecue on earth! Beats every other. Taste, quality, service, and price.
Been enjoying Country Tavern Ribs and Sauce since the 70's. When in the area, have to get some Country Tavern Ribs, it's a must.
Great food. They do not provide menus. Very difficult to remember what they offer by just listening to the waitress. Very weird. Food was good, overpriced.
BBQ is really good.
Normally it’s the best ribs I’ve ever had in my life and I love this place. However today was not the case. The ribs taste like yesterday‘s leftovers overcooked very thin hardly any meat on them at all. When I brought it up to the waitress she sent the manager and the manager was like oh I’m sorry I will have to cook some back now to serve fresh ribs. Wow!!! Where were my fresh ribs and the sausage was very cold and the casing on it was very tough.Manager did not offer to take it off the bill or do anything to make it right no free dessert not nothing. I have an asked about a free dessert to help make it right and she said well that’s not gonna happen good try though. 1-27-20 7:13 pm
You can go in there on Tuesday afternoon or a Saturday evening and the food is going to be fresh and delicious. And don't think about skipping dessert! We drive an hour and a half to eat there and it's worth every mile, every time.
Waitress was very sweet. Nice quiet place to eat. Food was exelent
This has always been our “go to” place for birthday and anniversary celebrations. As frequent patrons we are always satisfied with our ribs. However, sometimes the experience is awesome. When the quality of the meat meets the expertise of the pit master, it is pure heaven!
Food fantastic. Hostess girls were more interested in talking to each other. A young girl was in the kitchens he looked to be 10-12. Several people were touching food in the kitchen with no gloves. I ask waitress twice for a cold beer. Brought me a warm beer with cold glass. Glass did not cool the beer. Said I would pay for a cold beer I didn’t care what brand. Never got one waitress inquired but by that time I figured out I would not get one, food is great as always but if mgmt wants young people to run his restaurant the service will always suck.
Definitely one of top BBQ places anywhere. You will not be disappointed.
Best ribs PERIOD! We have our of state guests who will go to a conference in Dallas and ask to meet us at Country Tavern. We eat ribs in other places and States, but none come anywhere close to being half as good as Country Tavern. We live 45 minutes away and will drop everything to go eat here!
Very disappointed. Was told that there was an hour wait. We chose to wait. Was told that there was a party of 7 ahead of us. There were a lot of empty tables. One was already set up for a party of 7. When I inquired about it I was told was for a party of 7 at 6. At this point we'd been there for 45 minutes. It was 6:10. I was then told that reservation tables were held for half an hour. Who does this? Not the industry standard. After waiting for an hour we were seated at the table I had asked when we first arrived. I'm all for young people working, however I also feel that they need the proper training on how to book and reserve tables and keep your walk-ins happy and I feel that they need some adult supervision.
I try to eat at as many BBQ places as possible, and this has to be the best I've ever had. Incredible flavor, and amazing service. We had the ribs, turkey, and brisket, with potato salad and a potato casserole. Don't forget the homemade banana pudding! Just an awesome food experience.
The best ribs on Earth. Seriously.
Well considering the overall environment it was a great afternoon. Absolutely great ribs, cold beer and some country western music. Who could ask for more. Forget about all the bad stuff happening outside those walls for awhile.
Came in today around 4:30pm, we had the whole place to ourselves. I really wanted to try their brisket, but they were out and was making more for the dinner crowed. We ordered the rib, turkey and jalapeño cheddar sausage plates. All were delicious! Ribs were moist. My bf likes dry rub and I like mine wet, their ribs were between dry and wet, it was just the right mix! The Turkey was moist and nicely seasoned. My favorite thing to get is the jalapeno cheddar sausage, I can't get enough of that! Their bread is so good with everything!Tip: either come during lunch or dinner hours if you want brisket.
Ribs are big and meaty with a caramelized coating that requires no sauce. Brisket is rather ordinary but well marbled and tender at least, if lacking in flavor. The sauce is flavorful and comes out warmed, but is slightly thin, with the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The place is clean, friendly, and lively. No cell signal at all, might not can even squeak out a text which is somewhat refreshing, since you can simply forget it for awhile and be social. Really, the only gripe I have about the place is that the toilets are black.... So it makes me think they were chosen strategically so that they never look nasty.... But maybe they are? Who knows? Oh yeah, and the potato casserole is smokey, cheesy, savory and there's never enough of it!
Great food! Great service! We went for Mike's birthday. We weren't disappointed.
This place is what Texas barbecue is supposed to be. They have the best ribs you can get anywhere and consistently excellent brisket and turkey. Sides stand on their own and I highly recommend the potato casserole. Great selection of beer on tap. Don't pass up the cheese and sausage tray either.
I've heard people say this is the place to get ribs. The ribs were decent but not great. Had a good bite. Brisket was dry and I didn't really like how it was cut in half to serve. The sauce was good. I didn't like the potato salad, very tangy. Spicy mac and cheese was ok. There are no menus so have to listen waitress recite the menu choices. Be simpler to just have a menu like every other BBQ place. It really is more a bar than BBQ joint. I might stop again and just get ribs and a beer
Awesome food. Great service!! Great back room for large groups.
Girl's day out lunch with a friend transplanted from Michigan. She'd heard about the ribs here, so we stopped for lunch. Got there right at opening time, and received excellent service. The ribs were tender and juicy; they didn't really need sauce, but hey, it was good too. Sides were delish, especially the mac and cheese which brought tears to my eyes, and s smiffle to my nose. The jalapenos hiding in there will sneak up on you! Waitress brought a bread wrapper so I could treat my pooch, and to go box so I could treat my hubby. We enjoyed it!
Seriously over rated. My in laws were visiting from out of state and wanted to eat here because it was featured in some TV show they saw. I wanted to like this place but it was so bad. Maybe its because they were busy but the little hostess girls were so shady giving us serious side eye. I would have thought they were paying me not the other way round. I was looking at the menu and I could not find the prices so I didn't even know how much everything was til I got my bill. We are not rude demanding people but I really felt we were an inconvenience rather than a customer so I will never go back again.
Great as always! Ribs were amazing.
Possibly the best brisket and ribs in TX.
Relax ambiance, quick serve orders food, just easy to find location.delicious smoked sausages, turkey ,pork ribs and yummy black berry ice cream cobbler.
Great place. Ribs, potato salad and beans. All top of the line. Friendly staff.
Not good at all... Potato salad, beans were not good... ribs I have had better
Great service and very good barbecue along with some great sides. Wheelchair accessible for large power chair however accessible bathroom stall is a little small but doable with an agile caregiver!
My first time to eat here and it was delicious! I ordered the ribs, beans and spicy macaroni. Everything was great; the ribs were good and not dried out at all. Portion was more than I could eat. Then I had the fudge brownie with ice cream. Can’t wait to go back!
Our third time to visit the Country Tavern. We live in Mt Pleasant so we have a pretty good distance to drive here. However it is by far our favorite BBQ restaurant to eat at anywhere. Great service, great food!
Brisket very good, ribs good need just a little more smoke, but they are tender and pull off the bone.
Me and my wife haven’t been to the country tavern in many years. I have to say it’s definitely not what it used to be. If you’re going to eat just ribs, they are some of the best ribs you’ll ever eat. But everything else they’re serving their taste like it came out of a can. The sausage was good as well. We won’t be going back there
Love the ribs and sauce but the blackberry cobbler is amazing!!
Simple slice of country love, portions were a tad small but we more than made up by requesting extra spare-ribs.
Best ribs on the planet!! And GREAT service too!!
